Semester Test 2 Flashcards
Practicing for the second semester test on the 25th September
What are biological roles of fatty acids?
- Signal-transduction pathways
- Cellular fuel sources
- Energy storage within adipose tissue
Give a general description of a phospholipid and a general role in a cell.
A phospholipid is a molecule composed of a phosphate head and a lipid tail, they are amphiphilic in nature, They usually provide barriers in cellular membranes to protect the cell.
What is the structure and function of cellulose?
Cellulose is a substance that makes up the fibres and cell walls of plants. The molecules have a hydroxyl group that forms H-bonds with other cellulose.
What is the structure and function of glycogen
Polysaccharide
1-6 glycosidic bonds
Glucose monomers
Energy storage in animals
Structure and function of amylopectin
Polysaccharide
Glucose monomers
1-4 and 1-6 glycosidic bonds
Energy supply in plants
