What is the function of a principle?
They are used to organize visual elements into a composition.
Elements
line, shape, form, space, texture, value and color
Principles
pattern, rhythm, movement, proportion/scale, balance, emphasis, contrast and unity/harmony
What is the difference between rhythm and pattern?
A pattern is a perfect repetition and sequence while rhythm has one element that disrupts the sequence.
What is symmetrical balance?
The presentation of visual elements reflects on both sides of the axis with the same similar appearance. Axises may include vertical, horizontal, or diagonal.
What is an example of a technique to add emphasis?
Various because you can change color, focus, proportion/size, etc.
The elements and principles are the foundation of what?
Foundation of composition and the foundation of the language you use to critique a composition
What does shutter speed show in images?
Shows process of movement ( through blur or stop action)
What is the difference between shallow and wide DOF?
The difference is what’s in focus ( in shallow only part of the image is in focus and in wide everything is in focus )
When do you need a tripod?
Any picture that’s slower than 1/60th of a second or using a timer
What is the purpose of the spot healing brush?
To correct or eliminate small distractions in the photo
What are the two formats an image may be in?
RAW and JPEG
How do you create a light painting?
Slow extended exposure of the light source
What are the three colors that produce pixels which make our digital images?
Red, Green, and Blue ( RGB )

What does white balance refer to?
It adds blue or orange tones to the picture to equalize to neutral white light
What three aspects need to be in balance to properly expose an image?
ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture
What is the purpose of cropping?
To eliminate distraction from any of the possible 4 edges of the photo
What type of font has small decorative extensions and is seen in most traditional settings?
Serif
What are two ways you can change the style of the font?
Bold and Italicize
