In 1849 just on the rumor that she was about to be sold
left for Philadelphia leaving behind my free husband who refused to leave, my parents, and my siblings
December 1850, was free for the 1st time
helped possibly over 300 slaves through the Underground Railroad to freedom
If anyone wanted to go back she had a gun that she threatened them with it and said “You’ll be free or die.” Because if anyone went back it would endanger the ones who kept going
would always escape on Saturday nights since it wouldn’t be in the newspaper till Monday
never lost a single person that I was leading to freedom
In 1857 she also was able to bring my parents to freedom
in 1858, she bought a farm for her parents and herself to live on
became a spy on the Confederate Territory locating ammunition and warehouses to help with the carefully planned attacks of the North
After the War, she took in orphans and the elderly and cared for them
died due to pneumonia on March 10, 1913.
