A

A term used to designate a particular member of a broader class.
Semantic field = narrow
hyponymy = broad

“daisy” and “rose” are hyponyms of flower.

“pigeon”, “crow”, “eagle”, and “seagull” are all hyponyms of bird.

Idiom

A

A type of phrase or expression that has a meaning that can’t be deciphered by defining the individual words.

“A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”
This idiom implies it’s better to have something small and certain, than the possibility of attaining something greater that may never materialize.
