- written questions designed to collect info
- pre determined
- provides either qualitative or quantitative data

- can use them for lots of people (cheaper)
- open questions leads to more info/research
- reduces experimental bias

- can be biased due to who is willing to fill out
- closed questions limit responses (easier to summarieses)
- only filled out by people who can read and write

- pre determined questions
- no deviation from original questions

A
- new questions are developed during interview
- questions develop on basis of answers given
- sometimes called a clinical interview

- easily repeated as questions are standardised
- answers easier to analyse (predictable)
- different people can be compared due to standardised questions

- comparibility difficult if interviewer changes
- interviewer bias
