Internal / External Attributes
•Internal Attributions: assigning the cause of behaviors to one’s internal characteristics, such as personality traits, emotions, and abilities
• External Attributions: assigning the cause of behaviors to external outcomes, such as situational or environmental factors
Cognitive strategies for self enrichment
Enriching one’s self by adopting strategies that address problems one may have regarding a skill and working towards overcoming it
Downward comparison
comparing oneself to people that are worse off, can enhance self-esteem and boost confidence, but can also lead to arrogance and hostility

Engaging in behaviors that sabotage your chances of success
Self-Serving Bias
When one attributes their positive events and successes to their own character or actions, but blame negative results on external circumstances
Basking in Reflected Glory
To experience self-gratification on the basis of the success of someone with whom one is associated
Cutting off Reflected Behavior
Disassociating oneself from lower-status individuals because they do not want their reputations affected by associating with people who are considered failures
