The Philosophy of Self
Idea of a unified being(the person as a whole) which is connected and awareness.
SELF
Study of investigating fundamental questions/concepts about existence, reasons, knowledge, and moral judgement.
PHILOSOPHY

PHILO=LOVE + SOPHY=WISDOM
LOVE OF WISDOM
Concerned with the problem of self (know the value/ purpose of life through soul searching and separate body from soul).

SOCRATES
Socrates believe that every man is DUALISTIC. What are those?
BODY (MPERFECT & IMPERMANENT)
SOUL (PERFECT & PERMANENT)
Self is the process of self-knowledge and soul purification ( existence of mind and soul).
PLATO
Plato’s 3 components of soul:
- RATIONAL SOUL
- SPIRITED SOUL
- APPETITIVE SOUL
Reason and intellects ( makes wise choice and think deeply).
RATIONAL SOUL
Emotion and Passion ( love, Anger, Ambition).
SPIRITED SOUL
Basic Needs ( food, Sleep, Thirst, Sexual Desire).
APPETITIVE SOUL
Following the view of Plato but adds christianity; The self is known only through God.

ST. AUGUSTINE
St. Augustine’s man is bifucated nature.
BODY (dies on earth)
SOUL ( lives eternally with God)
Father of the Modern Philosophy; It’s the mind that makes the man.

The body of a human is like an animal. What makes it different is his ESSENCE.

The self is nothing but an IMPRESSION( experience/sensation that forms the core of our thoughts) and IDEA( copies of impression/imagination).

Agrees with Hume but believes that there is a MIND that regulates these impressions.

Disagree to Non Physical self/internal; Self is the behavior of a person that they do/make everyday.

Body and Mind is inseperable; The living body emotions, thoughts, and experiences are all one; The k owledge of self comes from subjective experience.
