selection of artificial teeth Flashcards
methacrylate resin teeth
occlusal reshaping is easy, tougher than porcelain, not stable in water, exhibit inferior abrasion resistance
porcelain teeth
estheticaly excellent, high abrasion resistance, attach mechanically by pins or diatoric holes, stable in water
more on porcelain teeth
cause significant weat of opposing enamel and metallic occlusal surfaces, brittle and crack easily, difficult to reshape because they loose their surface glaze, make clicking sounds when in contact.
more on porcelain
heavy, higher wear resistance that is 10-20 times greater than resin teeth
how should you involve patients when selecting denture teeth?
narrow it down to 2 or 3 and let the patient choose.
4 basic face forms
square, square tapering, tapering, and ovoid.
how can you determine which form someones face is?
usethe Trubyte tooth indicator
describe where the points are when using the trubyte tooth indicator
point A- acroos the forehead 2/3 up from eyebrow
point B- at the tragus of ear or middle of face
point C- at the angle of jaw
when would non-anatomic posterior teeth be used for dentures?
class 2 or 3 malocclusions
whats the main purpose for anterior teeth in dentures?
esthetics
how far should the facial surface of the central incisors be from the incisive papilla?
5-9 mm
maxillary lateral incisors
long axis should tilt slighlty distally, the cervical part of the tooth should tilt lingually as well. Incisal edge should be 1mm above occlusal rim.
maxillary canines in dentures
incisal edge should touch rim, long axis is perpendicular to rim, cervical 1/3 of labial portion should incline buccaly,
should the maxillary incisors touch the mandibular in a centric fashion?
no, they should be very close to edge to edge.
what should be ther overjet and overlap of the anterior teeth?
1mm and 1mm
