SEHS Test - Multiple choice Week 6 Term 1 Flashcards
What is Anatomical Terminology?
The body is made up of structures such as bones, muscles and organs. It is divided into segments, for example, the trunk, thigh and upper arm.
What is the Skeletal System?
It is made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments and joints of the boy. There is approximately 20% of body weight and roughly determines shape and size of the body (affected by nutrition, physical activity and posture).
How many bones are there in the skeleton?
There are 206 bones and it is divided into two parts
What is the axial component?
It contains 80 bones and includes the skull, ribs, sternum and vertebral column
What is the appendicular component
It contains 126 bones and includes the pectoral, girdle (shoulder), the pelvic (hip) girdle and the bones of the upper and lower extremities (the arms and legs)
Where do the pectoral and pelvic girdle attach to?
It attaches to the upper and lower extremities to the axial skeleton.
What makes up the upper extremities?
The scapula and clavicle make up the pectoral girdle and the bones of the upper extremities include the humerus, ulna, radius, carpal bones, metacarpals and phalanges
What makes up the lower extremities?
The bones of the lower extremities include the femur, tibia, fibula, tarsal bones, metatarsals and phalanges

In front or nearer to the front
What is internal?
Located inside or further away from the surface
What is external?
Located on or near the surface
What is medial?
Closer to the midline of the body
What is intermediate?
Between two structures, one of which is medial and one of which is lateral
