seeds Flashcards
What is a Dicot?
A seed with two cotyledon.
What is a monocot?
A seed with one cotyledon.
What the purpose of the seed coat?
To protect the inside of the seed.
What is Germanation?
It’s the growth of the seed.
What do seeds need in order to start Germinating?
Oxygen, sunlight, water, and the proper temperature.
what is the professional name for roots, stem, and leaf?
radicle, hypocotyl, and epicotyl.
where is the radicle, hypocotyl, and epicotyl?
in the embryo
where do the nutrients go?
in the endosperm.
what covers and holds the endosperm?
the cotyledon
what happens to the leaves when the germination is done?
the leaves open up.
Germination stage - the epicotyls has split.
stage 4
Germination stage- the seed hasn’t grown any bit yet. The Germination has just started.
stage 1
Germination stage - the seed coat begins to break. Tiny radicles are coming out of it.
stage 2
stage 3
Germination stage- some of the hypocotyl has now been released out of the embryo along with the hypocotyl.
stage 5
Germination stage - the seed is out of germination. start of seedling.
What is a seed that hasn’t started growing yet?
A dormat
seed dispersal air:
the seed get into the air and it flies away.
seed dispersal mechanical:
the seed is in to much pressure bc of gravity. it gets launched somewhere
seed dispersal water:
the seed gets into water and float away.
seed dispersal gravity:
it drops from its plant.
seed dispersal animal:
it eats or picks up the seed with its fur. then it either drops or gets into poop.
