Seed germination
The emergence of the young root or radicle through the testa- us usually at the micropyle
Viable seed
Has the potential to germinate if the external conditions are right
Conditions needed for germination
Water
Air (oxygen)
Temperature suitable for specific plant
Some need light
Some need absence of light
Quiescent seed
Viable seed that does not germination because environmental requirements are not correct
Dormant seed
Is one that does not germinate even though the environmental conditions are correct
Orthodox seeds
Once dry these seeds age slowly
The ageing process can slowed further if they are kept somewhere cold and dark

Nigella damascena
Recalcitrant seeds
Can not be dried or frozen.
Needs to stay moist and cool, but not for long
