When erosion, or the breaking down of the land around you, takes place.
What are sediments made up of
Rock and minerals
How are sediments deposited
By wind, flowing water, the sea or ice
What is Weathering
Weathering breaks down the Earth’s surface into smaller pieces
What is Erosion
When tiny pieces of the Earth’s surface are moved from one place to another
What is Deposition
When those sediments are deposited in a different location
What is Compaction
As the layers of sediment build up, the pressure on the lower layers increases
What is Lithification
The conversion of unconsolidated sediments into solid rock
What is the first step of the sedimentary rock process
Sediments are deposited in layers
What is the second step of the sedimentary rock process
The grains of sediments in lower layers are being squished together
What is the third step of the sedimentary rock process
Chemicals that are dissolved in the water can soak into the sediments

The chemicals help cement the grains together once the water has been evaporated
