Sediment and Erosion Control Flashcards
Helps Reduce Erosion in 3 Primary Ways:
- Increase the surface permeability
- Fill in small rills and voids
- Promote growth of temporary or permanent vegetation
Compost Blankets
Must not use in areas of concentrated or high velocity runoff
Compost Blankets
A vegetated strip surrounding disturbed areas or along water body margins.
Buffer Zone
Vegetative and structural practices to prevent or reduce bank erosion.
Steambank Stabalisation
A temporary structure to control concentrated stormwater flows in channels.
Check Dam
The creation, improvement, or stabalisation of channels for safe conveyance.
Channel Stabalisation
A temporary channel to conduct flow around construction in a stream.
Stream Diversion Channel
A concrete or half-pipe sectional flume to conduct flows safely down slopes.
Permanent Downdrain
A permanent structure designed to accomodate vertical grade change in natural or man made channels
Grade Stabalisation Structure
A zero gradient device used to convert concentrated flow into broad overland sheet flow.
Level Spreader
A temporary or permanent dam used in streams or drainage channels to filter sediment and slow flow velocity.
Rock Filter Dam
