MALWARE - What is it?
It is malicious software that is designed to cause harm or damage to the computer.
1. Virus
Spreads by copying itself to normal programs.
Users spread them by copying infected files and activate them by opening infected files.
Files/Software/Computers
Person is needed for the virus to replicate.
2. Trojan
Pretends it will be an useful and harmless program, when actually it will try to hack your device.
Disguises itself on a legitimate software.
Installed without realising.
It is often given away for free, and contains malicious code hidden inside.
It only appears once the gifted software is installed.
3. Worms
Can spread from one device to another device.
Unlike viruses, they don’t need to attach themselves to other programs.
Can copy themselves hundreds of times, so they can quickly harm devices.
Exploit weaknesses in network security.
Self-replicates (person is not needed for the worm to replicate) faster.
4. Spyware
Secretly tracks user actions, such as key presses.
Software that observes activities.
Key logger-track activities.
Sensitive information

○bank details
○passwords
5. Ransomware
Ransomware hijacks the data on a computer system by encypting it and demanding that the owners pay money for it to be decrypted.
6. Adware
Adware is a software that either causes pop-ups or windows that will not close. Generally, the pop-ups or window displays advertisements.
