Primary sector
Primary sector involves the extraction of raw materials or natural resources from land. Any business that grows goods or extracts materials from land would be classed as a primary sector business. Examples of businesses are farming, mining, fishing or oil production.
Secondary sector
Secondary sector involves manufacturing. This involves taking the raw materials from the primary sector and turning them into new products. Examples of businesses in the secondary sector are, car manufactures, food production, or building companies.
Tertiary sector
Tertiary sector is involved with providing a service. Services are activities that are done by people or businesses for consumers. Examples of businesses in the tertiary sector are hairdressers, banks, supermarkets, or cinemas.
Quaternary sector
Quaternary sector involves those industries providing information services such as computing, ICT, consultancy, and R&D. Quaternary sector is sometimes included in the tertiary sector, they are both service sectors.
