Sections of the EDF Flashcards
Front cover
Research Question and Hypothesis:
What are you trying to find out by performing this experiment? What do you think the outcome will be?
Glassware and Equipment
list the remaining pieces of glassware / equipment you will need for the experiment and its uses. INCLUDE SIZE (10 ML ETC)
Chemicals
list them with the name,
formula and concentration.
Pre-lab calculation
For Experiment 9 and 12 there is a calculation that needs to be completed before coming to perform the experiment. Use the Virtual Lab tutorial to help you complete these calculations
Procedure
list the steps concisely in point form in the EDF. Each step should not need more than 5 short points. You need to be detailed enough that another chemist can replicate it.
Changes
to be done IN the lab
Observations and Errors
Observations and errors must be recorded in your EDF as you perform the experiment.
- Colour, transparency and state of chemicals
- Changes in the above during reactions
- Spills, splashes and other errors that occur during the experiment
- Data should not be included in the observations
Data
Record data in the data tables, as neatly as you can, as you perform the experiment. If you record data
incorrectly, put one neat line through it and re-write the data
Must do
ALL sections must be completed in blue or black ink pen. Any sections completed in pencil = ZERO
* No white out or correction tape – 1 mark removed every time used
* Pre-lab sections must be completed before the start of the lab session.
Penalties
- If you do not complete the procedure, you will get ZERO for the whole EDF and asked to leave the
lab. You are seen as a safety hazard. No make up lab will be given. - Observation, errors and data sections must be signed by your TA before you leave the lab
