Pearl Habor

A

tojo was worried the US would eventually try to stop Japan from conquering additional countries in southeast Asia. Tojo decided to attack the US Navy and sink enough ships to keep the US from challenging Japan. On December 7 1941, Japanese Fighter planes attacked the US at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After two hour, almost 20 naval vessels, including eight large battleships and more than 300 airplanes, were destroyed.

A

Midway is located between US and Japan the US broke Japanese naval code and new the imperial fleet was going to attack. The US set up a surprise attack on Japan.
the US victory marked a turning point in the war in the Pacific in favor of the allies.

Battle of Guadalcanal

A

began on August 7, 1942, and ended on Feb 9, 1943. it was the first battle that the US attacked Japanese forces. US surprised Japan so they where able to take control of the Japanese air base. six months of Allies bombing incoming Japanese ships during the day, but at night Japan would send small fast ships in to deliver more soldiers. Japan where unable to advance. he Allies forced Japan to retreat.

Battle of Saipan

A

american forces invaded the island of Saipan , part of the Mariana Islands in the central pacific. the Japanese needed to keep Saipan because it could stop the American victory. When the troops met it was a fight to the death. many Japanese soldiers committed suicide instead of being taken prisoner, and even thousands of Japanese civilians committed suicide in fear of being held captive.

A

the battle of the sea is one of the biggest carrier battles of WW2. Japan had plans of inflicting serious damage to the US fleet. one day later Japan was the one retreating; because 3 carriers were sunk and 400 aircraft was destroyed. The Imperial fleet and the Japanese air force where critically damaged. The allies now controlled the seas surrounding Saipan.

A

largest naval battle in ww2. first battle US troops witnessed Kamikaze attacks. with this victory the allied forces were able to invade the Philippines and take greater control of the Pacific. Japan was no longer able to transport resources from southeast Asia to its home islands.

A

when US troops arrived they though most of the Japanese troops where killed by the bombings. THEY WHERE WRONG!!!!! the Japanese changed their tactics. they made an elaborate network of caves, dugouts, and tunnels from which they fought. there where a lot of casualties on both side!!!! With this victory the US was able to station its B-29 bombers on the island that would eventually make bombing runs to Japan.

one of the bloodiest battles of WW2. US wanted to continue moving closer to the Japanese homeland islands. The allies decided to invade Okinawa because it was only 350 miles from Japan. Japanese troops fought using hidden tunnels and used numerous kamikazes. a bunch of civilians where killed.
