Section Three Questions Flashcards
Where did Fathers Dave and Joe part with Mara?
Santa Domingo. (39)
What did Father Dave’s relationship with Mara teach him?
Sometimes he just needs to walk with and be present to other people. He did not need to changer her, he just needed to love her. (41)
Where (on his body) did Father Dave experience the most physical soreness on the Camino?
His feet. (41)
What does 1 Peter 2:24 say about sin?
“He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.” (45)
How does Father Dave believe fasting helps one grow in faith?
The discomfort of fasting allows God to share the transforming beauty of offering oneself for something greater. (45)
Why did the road to Logrono call to mind Matthew 7:13-14?
The road was wide, flat, and paved in concrete, however, that made it particularly painful. Father Dave found the shaded dirt paths much easier. The Matthew citation mentions that the rough road leads to life. (48)
Father Dave found Psalm 23:3-4 comforting. What do those line say?
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. (49)
Why did Father Dave compare the spiritual life to a snail?
We just need to keep moving forward; even if progress is slow, we can cover a lot of ground in a lifetime. (50)
What does Father Dave learn about his faith from his competitiveness on the Camino?
In the spiritual life, we are not in competition with one another. One does not win at the expense of another. Instead, we can be more converted if we help others grow. It is not about being better, faster, or holier than others. (51-53)
