A unit or combination of units propelled by any form of energy and operated from a single control, used in train or yard service.
Engine
An engine or more than one engine coupled, with or without cars, displaying a marker.

A reflector, flag, or highly visible marking device (red, orange, or amber in color) affixed to the rear of a train to indicate that the train is complete.
Marker
The maximum authorized speed.
Normal Speed
For passenger trains, not exceeding 45mph; for freight trains, not exceeding
40mph.
Limited Speed
not exceeding 30mph.
Medium Speed
not exceeding 15mph.
Slow Speed
A status achieved when the person has satisfactorily completed all training requirements, passed all required examinations, and is expected to perform all required duties safely, efficiently and in compliance with all applicable rules and instructions.
Qualified
A signal at a fixed location that affects the movement of a train.
Fixed Signal
The signal appearance, which conveys an indication as viewed from the direction of an approaching train.
Signal Aspect
The required action conveyed by the aspect of a signal.
