give the outline of a plan for a Monster Calls essay?
- Introduction- Very quick description of the show and your initial thoughts on it. Literally 1 or 2 sentences.
- A new paragraph for each point you make. At least 3 paragraphs but you could have up to 6 if you have time. You could do one paragraph per word on the extended words on your CUE
- If it asks for evaluation then make sure you include at least one negative point. You do not have to include one per paragraph
- Finish with a brief conclusion that refers back to the question

P - Point – stating the point of the paragraph
E - Evidence- Linking your point to a specific moment in the play
T - Terminology- Using specific Drama key words
E - Explain- Analyse the impact on you whether positive or negative
R - Refer- your ideas back to the original question
how long should you spend on each part of your essay?
Your essay is marked out of 30 so you should spend 30 minutes writing
Spend no more than 2-3 mins writing your introduction and conclusion
You should spend 5-8 minutes per paragraph depending on how many you write.
3 paragraphs should be the minimum you aim for with 6 being the maximum.

- establishing the location and time period of the production

what are some things that sets may also have to do as well as creating meaning?
- have enough exits and entrances
- have different staging levels
- allow actors enough space to move around the stage
- give the audience clear sightlines
- allow for quick scene changes
what type of set does AMC have?
a minimalist and abstract set
what are the features of a minimalistic set?
- these sets use few props and minimal scenery
- the audience has to use their imagination more
- props are important to symbolise themes or show the time period
what are the features of abstract sets?
- this type of set doesn’t try to recreate real life
- the design doesn’t have to be basic - it could be very elaborate
- they often bring out the play’s symbols or themes
