Section A - x-ray Fluorescence Flashcards
1
Q
what is x-ray fluorescence?
A
a widely used method of analysis for artefacts.
The sample is bombarded with high energy X-rays.
The X-rays will ‘knock’ electrons out of the atoms.
These knocked out electrons, photoelectrons, will come from the inner electron shells of the atoms; K and L shells.
2
Q
what is Moseleys’s law?
A
Moseley’s law states that the energy of a transition depends on (Z-1)2 , where Z is the charge on the nucleus.
