What was the Objectives Resolution?, What were it’s points? and why was it criticized?

A

The Constitution during Khawaja Nazimuddin had set up a Basic Principles Committee which had the set up it’s findings in the Objective Resolutions.

The Objectives Resolution had called for:
1- Muslims to lead their lives through Islamic principles.
2- Other religious groups could practice their religion freely.
3- Minorities and poor people were to have protection from all social injustice.
4- Urdu was to be the official language.
5- There would be a bi-cameral legislature with equal powers.

It was criticized by the
1- The East Pakistanis for making the official language Urdu when the Bengalis were a larger population then West Pakistan.
2- The Provincial politicians disliked that the power was being given to the Head of State and the Federation.
3- The religious ulemas and groups criticized the constitution for not entirely being Islamic.

What was the PRODA Act and why was it unfair?

A

The Public and Representative Officers Disqualification (PRODA) was an Act set up during Khawaja Nazimuddin’s time that showed that anyone found guilty under the Act was to be barred from the office.

Although it was originally designed to end corruption and make Pakistan a free democratic country, some said it to be a an unjust method by the elite to remove anyone thy did not approve of from the office.

What was the Liaquat-Nehru Pact that took place during Khawaja Nazimuddin’s rule as the Governor-General of Pakistan?

A

The rule of Khawaja Nazimuddin included the signing of the Liaquat-Nehru Pact that was signed in order to state that every government was responsible for the refugees and minorities within it’s borders. Free passages for the refugees were restricted and a visa system was also introduced.

A

The Rawalpindi Conspiracy was a group of officers that were planning to overthrow the government during Khawaja Nazimuddin’s time as they were unsatisfied by the government. They were discovered by Ayub Khan and the conspirators were arrested.
