‘How Far’ Question
Pupils are required to extract at least 3 clear, separate and specific pieces of information from the sources.

  1. 2 must show that the sources support each other.
    e. g. Source A says … (quote required) and this is supported in Source B … (quote required).
  2. 1 must show where the sources disagree or information is omitted/left out.
    e. g. Source A says … (quote required) however Source B does not make reference to it or Source B disagrees with this … (quote required).

(Vice versa)

‘How useful and reliable’ question
This question is asking you about how ‘useful’ AND ‘reliable’ a source is.
You must use DAMMITAL on this source to assess how useful and reliable it is.

  1. One paragraph on what is useful/limited about the source.
  2. One paragraph on what is reliable/less reliable about the source.
  3. Examples must be taken from the source.
  4. Your own knowledge should be used to support your argument about each point you make.

A

This question will present you with a statement. It will then ask you to use all the sources and your own relevant knowledge to explain whether or not you agree with the interpretation in the statement.

To answer the question all 4 sources must be used.

  1. Identify who the interpretation is from in each source
    e.g. Russian/American/Korean/Cuban/Historian.
  2. Outline what their viewpoint is using examples from the sources.
  3. Explain why this is their viewpoint in relation to the question
    e.g. ‘Reasons for defeat’, ‘causes of event’, ‘challenges to authority’.
  4. Weave in your knowledge along with each source to support or disagree with the interpretation.
    [15 marks]
