acerrimum in veteranos odium; qui in coloniam Camulodunum nuper deducti pellebant domibus Trinobantes, exturbabant agria, captivos veo servos appellabant; militesque superbiam saevitiamque veteranorum incitabant similitudine vitae et spe eiusdem licentiae.
the most bitter hatred was directed at the veterans, who had recently been installed in the settlement of Camulodunum and were driving out the Trinobantes from their homes; they were forcibly expelling them from their fields and were calling them prisoners or slaves. and the soldiers were urging on the insolent behaviour and the savagery of the veterans by their similarity of life and by the hope of the same licence to misbehave.

and it seemed it would not be difficult to destroy the colony, which was not protected by any fortifications; this fact had been considered too little by our leaders, since they had given thought to its attractive appearance before considering its need.
