Section 5 Flashcards
1
Q
Which chemical are required for the light-dependant reaction?
A
NADP, ADP, Pi, water
2
Q
Describe what happens during photoionisation in the light-dependent
reaction
A
• Light energy excites electrons in chlorophyll
• Electrons leave chlorophyll
3
Q
What is the photolysis of water?
A
Light energy absorbed by chlorophyll is used to split water molecules into H+, e- ions and oxygen
4
Q
What happens during chemiosmosis?
A
• Electrons move into electron carrier chain in thylakoid membrane
• Electrons release energy into proteins that pump protons across membrane
• Electrochemical gradient created
• Protons pass through ATP synthase, which causes ATP production
• Protons combine with coenzyme NADP to become NADPH
