-Suggest that he Willingly become enrolled as a rehabilitation patient -Counsel him, and encourage him to stay in the program -Do not label him as a “DUD” , but treat him as a person with an illness -If he does not respond to treatment , take necessary administrative action for elimination from service

Once the urinalysis is announced , can a service member refer himself into a drug and alcohol program to avoid a positive test result and a command referral?
No, Once the test is announced it is too late , he must take the urinalysis test
Why is the Urinalysis Test Given?
-Deter service members who may become involved with illegal drugs -Identifies service members who have become involved with illegal drugs -Com-firms drug presence necessary for administrative and/or disciplinary action
When Can a commander order a urine test from a military member?
-If a service member declines to provide a urine sample and there is probable cause to believe the military member has ingested drugs, is drug intoxicated, or has committed a drug-related offense.
What are five indicators of alcohol abuse?
-Hangovers -Blackouts -Fatigue -Illness -Conflict
In what ways can Alcohol abuse altar a service members behavior?
-Adversely affects performance -Debilitates physical or mental health and well-being -Interferes with financial responsibilities -Damages personal relationships and other associations -leads to the violation of military regulations or civil laws -Contributes to disorderly conduct
When does a service members drinking problem become the problem of others?
As soon as the Problem adversely affects job performance and his ability to function effectively.
What are some situations which may cause service members to rely on or become addicted to substances?
-Conflicts with family -Difficulties with peers -Difficulties with Authorities -Finical Problems
What services does the American Red Cross provide for service members and their families?
-Financial Assistance in the form of a loan without interest on the basis of need -Referral services to agencies specializing in legal aid , medical or psychiatric care, employment or family and children’s welfare -Instructional courses such as water safety , first aid home care of the sick and injured , and mother and baby care -Communication between service members and their families to alleviate apprehension , worry and concern ; information for justification of emergency leave , deferments , compassionate reassignments , and leave extension request -Volunteer assistance programs -Blood Programs
