Section 4 Flashcards
What kind of energy do batteries convert energy from, to?
Chemical to electrical.
How can heat be transferred?
By radiation, conduction or convection.
What is thermal radiation?
The transfer of heat energy by electromagnetic waves.
What are conduction and convection?
The transfer of energy via particles.
What is conduction?
The main form of heat transfer in solids.
What is the conduction of heat?
The process where vibrating particles pass on their extra kinetic energy to neighbouring particles.
When does convection occur?
When the more energetic particles move from the hotter region to the cooler region - and take their heat energy with them.
What is power measured in?
Watts.
Examples of non-renewable energy sources?
Coal, oil gas, natural gas, nuclear fuels.
