What battle was the turning point of the Soviet Union?
Stalingrad
What happened to Rommel’s Afrika Korps?
Pushed out of Tobruk, and ambushed by a huge allied army, they were eventually crushed.
What happened during the invasion of Italy?
Allies eventually took control of the whole country and Italian resistors executed Mussolini.
How did total war affect the allies?
America and Britain had to ration food and materials that were not related to the war effort. Following propaganda civilians did many things to aid the allies abroad.
What did America do with Japanese-Americans?
Many felt prejudiced and afraid of them because of Pearl Harbor. So most were shipped off to relocation camps.
What was D-Day?
An ally invasion force of over 3million stormed the beaches of Normandy. They suffered heavy casualties but in time were able to take the beachhead, and then went on to liberate France and it’s surrounding countries.
Battle of the Bulge
German tanks and troops pushed through Allied lines for a short time, but eventually had to retreat.
Germany’s unconditional surrender
Millions of Allies and Soviets surrounded Germany’s capital of Berlin. Realizing defeat, Hitler and his wife committed suicide. Allies celebrated Victory in Europe Day after Germany had surrendered.
What was happening to the Japanese in the war?
Allies were crushing their fleet and armies, as well a moving closer and closer to Japan.
A-bombing Japan.
America had dropped 2 atomic bombs on Japanese cities; Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This caused Japan to surrender due to the huge amount of destruction and loss of life.
Splitting the atom
German scientist were the first to split the atom and discover the power from it. Americans however created the first atomic bomb that used that power.
Who was Dwight Eisenhower?
A famous American general that one many battles and ended becoming president.
What did Stalin want the other Allies to do?
Invade France and push the Germans back to cause a war on to fronts for Hitler.
What was the problem with the war on two fronts?
America and Britain were invading a better defended area, so progress was slow. While the Soviets were pushing through weaker defense and gaining more land across Europe to Germany quickly. This caused more spread of Communism in these countries.

He became the new leader of Italy and had Mussolini arrested (who escaped with the help of the Germans fora short time).
