Q
Describe the example of vegetative propagation in elm trees
A
- damage to parent plant
- basal sprouts appear (asexual reproduction) an grow from meristem tissue in the trunk close to the ground (less likely damaged)
- suckers grow and form circles of new elms called a clonal patch
- if parent plant had disease, all new trunks will die from it if they become infected

Q
Disadvantages of asexual reproduction
A
Produces genetically identical cells so there is no variation
Equally susceptible to getting disease
