Describe the example of vegetative propagation in elm trees

A
  • damage to parent plant
  • basal sprouts appear (asexual reproduction) an grow from meristem tissue in the trunk close to the ground (less likely damaged)
  • suckers grow and form circles of new elms called a clonal patch
  • if parent plant had disease, all new trunks will die from it if they become infected
