Section 3 Flashcards
Angular Unconformity
a type of geological feature where younger sedimentary rock layers are deposited on top of older, tilted, or folded rock layers that have been eroded.
Correlation
stratigraphic columns from around the world are stacked to represent geological time – this is the geological column. Global correlation of strata led to the development of the geological column
Nonconformity
where sediments overly much older intrusive igneous or metamorphic rocks
Permineralized Organisms
process by which minerals precipitate in porous material from groundwater solutions that seeped into the pores. E.g. petrified wood
Unconformities
gaps in rock record when erosion occurred rather than deposition
