What is the difference between law and moral rules?
Law is enforceable by state with sanctions and penalties to those who break it
Moral rules are not imposed by state but unpleasant social consequences may follow
What is private law?
The relationship between individuals and between individuals and corporate bodies eg. Law of contract or property
What is public law?
The relationship of government and local authorities with each other and with us as individuals
What is criminal law?
Activities which are thought to be detrimental to state or society and are punishable by state. Eg. For lettings agents, protection from eviction act 1977
What is civil law?
Activities between individuals or organisations which are not criminal. People are sued and face paying damages
