Section 2 Flashcards
Superconductors
A conductor with virtually no resistance.
Resistor
A substance that gives a electrons a hard time passing through the circuit.
Resistance
The difficulty for electrons to pass through a circuit.
Ohms
The unit for resistance.
Variable resistor
An electronic component used to vary the amount of current that flows through a circuit.
Rheostat
A variable resistor.
Ohm’s law
V=I R (voltage equals current times ohms).
Voltage drop
The amount of voltage lost due to an impedance in the circuit.
Millivoltmeter
A voltmeter that instead measures millivolts.
ammeters
Electric instrument that measures amperes.
Galvanometers
Electric instrument used to detect electric currents.
Multimeters
Electric instrument that can detect amps, voltage, and ohms.
schematic diagram
A representation that uses abstract graphics.
Series circuit
A circuit in which the current is the same in all the components.
Parallel circuit
A circuit with two or more paths and with voltage that is the same throughout all the components.
