Read before you sleep 30min
If u can understand complex things when u are sleepy, imagine how much easier it will be when you are awake.
Paraphrase extensively
Replace that word with something familiar/easy & continue reading passage. It may not make such sense but easier to recollect after 5/10 min reading.
Practice in a timed setting
ONly 1 rule to success: Practice, practice & practice.
Learn to stop trying and move on THIS ONLY WHEN U ARE USED TO PRACTICING IN A TEST ENVIRONMENT. Even if you are doing a few quesstions for fun have a timer set to 120 seconds.
TIP TO READ ENTIRE PASSAGE QUICKLY-PART A
Read first & last paragraph slowly, rephrasing each sentence.
write down notes, paraphrasing complex sentences into something you can understand. MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT THE AUTHOR IS TRYING TO CONVEY.
Once your done with first & last paragraph, move to others.
read first one or two sentences in other paragrpahs to visualise structure of the paragrpah
repeat steps for other paragraph, left with an overview of entire passage in a few sentences.
TIP TO READ ENTIRE PASSAGE QUICKLY: PART B
In your mind you should have as you read passage:
“Alright. So the 1st paragraph claim X happens very often, the 2nd paragraph says its not necessarily so & there are quite a few exceptions ( with eg)
but 3rd paragraph says X still holds true in most cases and 4th concludes that although x happens 90% of the time it is foolish to think x always happens.
TIP TO READ ENTIRE PASSAGE QUICKLY: PART C
Clear idea of entire structure of passage allows u to answer:
- “What is the tone of the author?”
- “What according to the author is the main message”
if you have crystal clear idea of the entire passage, which can be explained within a few lines.
- Look for keywords
While reading first 1-2 sentences in begining of each paragraph, scan rest of text in the paragraph, looking for keywords such as named, dates, other terminology used by author.
These are important as asked in the questions.
when u see an inference q u know which part of paragrah to refer to.
- Rotten tomato technique
Inspect each tomato 100% if u are sure it is healthy u buy it. Apply same technique to answers chocies, even if there is a single word, or sentence that does`t seem right treat answer as invalid and move to next answer.
Rotten tomato technique gives u healthy results.
