Section 1 : Further Mechanics Flashcards
What is the equation for density?
Density = mass/volume
What should you do before you start a Momentum calculation?
Always draw a quick sketch of the relevant objects, before and after the collision.
Why would a rifle have a smaller final velocity then a bullet?
Because it’s got a much greater mass
What’s the collusion like between gas particles?
Elastic. Otherwise air would get colder and colder until there was no motion left
What is the vector sum?
The resultant of adding the size and direction of all the individual forces
Why do you need to consider the direction of F and a when using then in calculations?
Because they are both vectors
What is the relationship between drag and motion?
Frag always acts in the opposite direction to an objects motion
What are the units of resultant force?
Kg ms^-2 or N
What are the units of rate of change of Momentum?
Kg ms^-2 the same as those for m x a
What is the equation of the area of a triangle?
Area = 1/2bh
What is 1 radian approximately equal to?
57 degrees
What are the radian values for these common angles?
• 45 degrees
• 90 degrees
• 180 degrees
- 45 degrees = pi/4 radians
- 90 degrees = pi/2 radians
- 180 degrees = pi radians
What is the symbol for Angular speed?
The little Greek omega not ‘w’
What is the linear speed v?
How fast an object would be traveling in a straight line if it broke off from circular motion
What is rpm?
Revolutions per minute
