Remembering that children develop in different ways and at different rates. what are some general trends and milestones in child development?
A baby will typically sit before crawling, or a young child will usually play alone before beginning to play with others.
Why is it important for adults caring for children to understand the sequence to children’s development?

They can pan interesting activities to help children learn and develop.

The pattern or order of the way children grow and develop.
What ae the five key areas of development in children?
Physical Social Emotional Intellectual Language
What is physical development?
It identifies how a child’s body develops skills of movement and coordination. For example, a baby turning their head or rolling over, or a young child who is learning to climb up stairs, or a three year old jumping on and off balance beams.
What is used to create physical movements in a baby or young child?

How is emotional development presented in babies and young children?
Babies copy the emotions of those close to them - they will smile back, but they can also get upset if their cater is upset or anxious. In young children, it is linked to becoming more independent. They like to do things for themselves and can become frustrated when they are prevented or restricted from doing so. As they get older, encouragement and support from understanding adults helps them to accept boundaries and adapt their behaviour.
What is intellectual development?
The development of the brain. It includes thinking skills, remembering, imagining and reasoning. When you are wondering what to do next, or thinking about how to cross a road safely, you are using your intellectual skills.
