The purpose of the Mystical Body of Christ is the same as the physical Body of Christ - to save souls from Hell and bring us to Heaven

One who is sent
What did Christ command the Apostles to continue?
to continue praying, healing, and exocising demons, and to spread His Gospel all over the world

Because Christianity is historical; God became man in history; not abstract; based on man

Because a correct understanding of history can help prevent us from making mistakes of the past

Who founded the Church?
Jesus Christ
“And so I say to thee, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Mt. 16:18).
Simon (Peter) is chosen by Jesus himself to be the leader of the Church he has created

Catholic Church is not man-made. Rather it is a Divine Institution.
“My Church”
The Catholic Church belongs to Jesus Christ.
“I will build My Church”
using the singular, not “churches” in the plural form. Jesus created one Church only.
How does the Church fulfill its purpose?
This is done by changing us from sinful to holy, for only the holy can enter the Kingdom of God
What are the four marks of the Church?
One, Holy, Catholic, Apostolic

in her Founder, Doctrines, Sacraments, and Saints
Catholic
Universal (made for all people)
Apostolic
She alone, in her priesthood. Traced back historically to the Apostle and our Lord Himself
What were the Jewish people waiting for?
They were waiting for the messiah to free then from the Roman yoke
What was the inaugural event of Jesus’ public ministry?
Jesus’ Baptism at the hands of St. John the Baptist
What did Jesus’ new law ask His followers to do?
to drown evil in abundance of good
When did the Holy Spirit descend upon the Apostles?
Jewish feats of Pentecost, 50 days after Resurrection

The Apostles began to preach the news of Christ, and their listeners miraculously understood the Apostles’ word in many languages
