Q
Semi-conservative DNA replication
A
- DNA Helicase separates the strands of DNA by breaking the hydrogen bonds between the complementary bases. The 2 strands unwind. both are used as a template.
- Free DNA nucleotides bind to their complementary bases on each strand via hydrogen bonds.
- DNA polymerase joins adjacent nucleotides via phosphodiester bonds to form the new strand.
- 2 identical DNA molecules are produced. Both contain one original strand and one new strand.
