Section 0 Flashcards
What is a CPU socket
The CPU socket whether LGA ( Linear Grid Array) or PGA allows the CPU to connect to the motherboard bus connections to communicate to all other parts of the motherboard.
What is RAM/DIMM SLOTS
Random access memory slots allow the computer to access the needed volatile memory to complete tasks. They may have either a single, dial or triple rail configuration.
What is unified Chipset?
Newest motherboards have a unified chipset that governs all the functions, just as the north and south bridge chipsets do on older motherboards. This chipset communicates, prioritizes, and directs traffic’s from multiple sources like the RAM, expansion slots, etc… The Chipset used to be referred as Northbridge and South bridge
What is PCle X1
One of the PCI express slots flor the adapter cards. PCle x1 is the shortest amongst the PCle express slots and has the lowest throughput.
What is PCle X16 ?
One of the PCI Express slots for adapter cards PCIe x16 port is one of the longest among the PCIe express slots and has the highest throughput.
What is SATA data connectors?
SATA data connectors are used to transfer data from SATA drives to the motherboard.
What is CMOS Battery?
The complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor battery ( CMOS) is used to power the. IOS firmware and save BIOS setting such as date and time.
What is a USB Port?
Universal Serial Bus is knows as a hot swappable interface used to peer devices and transfer data to and from devices.
What is PS/2 Port?
Is used to connect keyboards and mice. These ports are considered to be legacy, replaced by USB. PS/2 can also be known as 6-pin Mini-DIN.
Audio connection port
Audio connector ports are used to connect headphones, speakers and other audio-specific devices.
What is an Ethernet Port?
Are the shape of RJ-45 jack and the most common way to access the network.
What is a VGA Port?
( Video Graphics Array)
port was once the staple video connector used for computer monitors. They have been replaced with DisplayPort and HDMI interfaces. VGA is also known as DB-15 due to its shape and amount if pins it has
