What does the S in SAMPLE stand for?
Signs and symptoms
Signs are what you can see or feel, things you can observe yourself
Symptoms are things the patient can feel, but you cannot observe yourself
What does the A in SAMPLE stand for?
Allergies
Gather information about the patients allergies, specifically to medications or medical implements
What does the M in SAMPLE stand for?
Medication
Gather information about the patients possible medications, if they have used it, how often they should be using it, if they have it on their persons
What does the P in SAMPLE stand for?
Previous medical history
Gather information about previous but relavent medical conditions from the patient, if they have something that could have caused this event
What does the L in SAMPLE stand for?
Last meal
Ask about their last meal, what they had, when they had it, if they eat regularly, when they last drank
What does the E in SAMPLE stand for?
Event history
Gather the approximate history of the event, what exactly happened here, when it happened, why they think it could have happened
When do you perform a secondary survey, after completing your primary survey?
If the patient is conscious and breathing, while treating any minor injuries/talking with them if there are none
What is the point in performing a secondary survey?
You need the information to inform the emergency services, as it will aid in the patients care under them
