Keratin debris in the stratum corneum that is observed in pityriasis
SCALE
Caused by mechanical traimas or repetitive scratching;
Size and shape vary; dmall lesions with punctuate or linear shapes
EXCORIATION
Caused by bursting of vesicles in varicella, variola, impetigo, or herpes simplex
EROSION
(+) Skin loss extending through the epidermis and part of the dermis
Caused by impaired or restricted supply of blood or nutrition
ULCER
Linear cleavages which sometimes extend into the dermis
Developed around the flexiral side of finger joints, fingertips, palms of the hands, lateral sides of the fingers and toes, oral angles, nostrils, auricles, and anus
FISSURE
Composed of dried serum, blood, or purulent exudate
CRUST
Part of the healing processes, replacing damaged skin tissues
Shape and size determined by defect
SCAR
Decrease in cell size due to the loss of organelles and substances
ATROPHY
Condition where a part of the dermis thickens
Skin loses flexibility and wrinkles become prominent
LICHENIFICATION
A symptom of underlying systemic disease in people with generalized itching, especially among the chronically ill and older populations
PRURITIS (ITCHING)
Appearance of smooth, slightly elevated patches (wheals]
Redder or paler than the surrounding skin with severe itching
URTICARIA (HIVES)
Eruption on the skin and often accompanied by itching
Seen on face, trunk, axilla, and groin
RASH
Fluid-containing elevated lesions of the skin
Primarily associated with diseases of a genetic or autoimmune origin or may be secondary to viral or bacterial infections of the skin
BLISTERS (VESICLE OR BULLA)
Mild form of ichthyosis or excessive dryness of the skin
Accentuated by the use of drying skin cleansers, soaps, disinfectants, and solvents, and by dry climates
