Closer you are the less transport costs you will need to pay

All factories need to transport their finished/semi-finished products to their costumers.
Good road / rail (same country)
Close to port / airport (exporting)

Labour
All factories need a work force
Some need highly trained / skilled workers
Some factories require low skilled workers
Heavy industry
Industries that the product sbeing made are big and heavy.
Example: iron and steel making
Light industry
Industries that produce small or light products
Exampl: electronic, healthcare products
Multinational corporations
Companies that make their products in many different countries
Example: coca cola, nike, Microsoft

Things we need to put in at the start
Processes
Things we do to the inputs to turn them into semi/ finished products
Outputs
Things we have at the end. Finished product
Footloose industry
When a industry or company is not tied down to a particular place.
Usually in business parks
Example: city west
Industrial location
As time goes on industries may need to change their location because they have changed the methods of and need new services
Example: in the past most industries need to be closer to coal mines becaus ecoal was the main source of power
Industrial interia
A factory remains although the reasons for its location no longer exist
Niche products
A good manufactured for a particular use
Example: surgical instruments used in hospitals
Industrial regions
Include USA, Japan and countries in Western Europe
All these countries industrialised during the industrial revolution
Newly industrial region
Include South Korea, China, India, Mexico and Brazil
Cheep labour, means that more and more companies anre going to these countries
