What is footloose industry
Footloose industry is manufacturing that is not tied to one location
Why were iron and steel industries tied to coal sites
Iron and steel industries were tied to coal sites because coal was needed to smelt the iron and steel
Why was water power often used in Ireland in the industrial revolution
Because little or no coal was in Ireland so water was used as a substitute
Why are modern day light industries footloose
Industrial estates, electricity, excellent transport, light industries product, the workforce(usually own cars), ring roads
What is industrial inertia
When a factory is in a location even though the reason for that location no longer exists
The British iron and steel industries declined after 1960, why is this
- Coalfields were exhausted after generations of mining. 2. New methods of working required far less coal so coalfields were abandoned. 3. Foreign steelmakers made steel cheaper snd the demand for British steel declined. 4. The coast of Britain became a more attractive place for steel industries, iron ore and polish coal could be imported to coastal steel industries
