Second Year Test Improvement Flashcards
What is amylopectin
Amylopectin is a long branched chain of alpha glucose. Its side braches allow the enzymes that break down the molecule to get at that glycosidic bonds easily. This allows glucose to be released quickly.
Contains 1-4 and 1-6 glyvosidic bonds between alpha glucose monomers.
Maltose is
Disaccharide of 2 alpha glucose with 1-4 glycosidic bond.
What is amylose
Coiled polysaccharide.
Made of alpha glucose monomers.
All monomers in same orientation.
Soluble.
Used for energy storage.
Compact.
What is cellulose
Beta glucose polysaccharide.
1-4 glycosidic bonds between molecules.
Alternate monomers 180° to each other.
insoluble.
Used for structure.
Linear.
Fatty acid formation
Carboxyl group
Hydrocarbon tail.
Methyl group
Properties of fibrous proteins
Insoluble, strong, unreactive
Remember to
Be specific and give examples in questions like.
Why is the ability of water to act as a solvent important for the survival of organisms.
