A
The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.
(Basically a grid slit into thirds)

This is a method used to add depth to images.
So focus/depth of field can make things stand out.
Sharp v soft focus
Overlapping objects to create more depth

Helps create feeling of depth
