Angel Investor
High-net-worth individual who gives financial backing to startups
Common Stock
Stock that grants shareholders ownership and voting rights.
Hedge Fund
Partnership of private investors whose money is managed by a fund manager, who in turn helps them earn above-average investment returns.
Market Capitalization
Market value of a public company’s shares.
Preferred Stock
Shareholders get set dividend payments but do not have voting rights.
Dividend
A payment of some of a company’s earnings to shareholders
Restricted Stock
Shares issued to an employee that become fully vested after a set amount of time.
Series Funding
Funding rounds that give investors a chance to invest cash in a growing company
Series A Funding
First round of funding raised for a privately held-startup, usually from well-know venture capital firms
Series B Funding
Funding for well-established companies with a median value of 35M+
Series C Funding
Funding for companies looking to develop new products or expand their market, usually from hedge funds or private equity groups
Private Equity Firms
Buys and overhauls companies in order to earn a profit and resell them.
Venture Capital
Controls a pool of funds from multiple investors and provides financing to startups.
Seed Funding
Stage where a business launches its first product and all operations are paid by venture capital
