Search Plan Variables Flashcards
Concept of Search Planning
Detection S W
Sweep Width (W)
Width of a swath centered on the SRU’s track where the probability of detection is equal inside and out.
Sweep Width Concerns
As the distance increases, the probability of detection decreases A detection probability is not a great measure of detectable sweeps Based on the quality of search object, search method, environmental conditions, SRU fatigue status.
Sweep Width Correction
W= Wu x Fw x Ff x Fv
Wu = Uncorrected Sweep Width
Fw = weather
Ff = Fatigue
Fv = Speed Correction (Aircraft Only)
What type of search objects are Visual Distress Signals
Active
What are the types of Radars?
Side, Forward, Surface
Track Spacing
Distance between track legs
SAR planner can can change spacing
Coverage Factor
Sweep Width (W) / Track Spacing (S)
Probability of Detection
Measured probability of detecting an object under “ideal” or “normal” conditions
Maximizing Available Effort (Z)
Z= V * W * T : Searchable Area based on W
A = V * S * T : Search area based on S
T = Search Endurance
