Search Patterns Flashcards
Name the immediate actions upon location of a door ?
Check for :
Heat
Handle
Hinges
Seal the door
What should be carried out once you have passed through a door ?
Landmark the door
What is a consideration when turning at an internal corner inside a building
Ensure there is or isn’t a door standard ( possibility of an open door or indication of a raised internal roller shutter )
Describe what is meant by the term “route”
To travel directly to a point ie: route to the 3rd door on a left hand route
Describe what is meant by the term “search” and an action taken when a door is located
To search every compartment within the building. Every door (opposite side) will be checked for a HANDLE and SWEEP behind the door until you return to fully search the compartment
Describe the pattern “route”
To route you will pass through every door which is found on either a LH or a RH lay usually to locate a scene of operations or location of casualties/fire
Considerations prior to entering a basement, ie top of stairs…..
Clarify plan to No2
Radio “change of level”
Gauge check
Consider gas cooling down stairs
Describe the pattern search
From door of entry LH/RH every door encountered shall be swept (behind the door and facing into the compartment) until the POE has been reached. This signifies compartment 1 has been cleared. You will now ROUTE to the first door that was swept, enter and search. Once complete, this will signify compartment 2 is now cleared and so on.
Describe “to bypass” within a brief
To take a direct line to a particular compartment/area or room with no need to sweep the doors.
For example: through door of entry bypass 3 doors enter 4th door carry out a Left hand search
Explain “ stair procedures “ both enclosed and open cases
If upon a sweep a staircase is found, this will be reported to ECO however if the staircase is open when encountered then No1 will ascend the stairs sweep the top landing and return back down the stairs however if No1 encounters a door at the top of the stairs then he will bring No2 up the stairs in order to carry out a full sweep of that door before descending the staircase.
Stairs are COUNTED OFF OUT LOUD ascending and descending
demonstrate the following briefs:
1) LH route to the stairs
2) RH search
3) LH route to 3rd door RH search
4) RH route to 4th door LH search
5) LH search
Explain the procedure when finding a casualty
1) bring No2 into position
2) radio ECO with details of casualty
3) turn back to compartment door of entry and formulate route back
4) branch to wall - casualty’s feet on outside ( ready brace lift )
5) check conditions from door of entry into previous compartment
6) communicate route back out clearly with No2
Explain the term “seal the door” and when it is carried out
A door is sealed by “arcing” a spray around the door in order to penetrate into the compartment with water to absorb heat from the space the waters will be moving into.
This is carried out as part of the door entry procedure.
Door 1 = 2nd compartment
Door 2 = 3rd compartment
Door 3 = 4th compartment
DOOR + ONE COMPARTMENT MORE
Alcove or standard, CHECK ABOVE AND FIND THE DOOR
Small cupboards need swept BUT can be CLEARED
Verbal less MAKE IT SLICK
Post door entry explain your initial actions for swift progression
Bring team member in
Landmark the DOE
Place yourself in the corner
Possibly move forward without No2 if space is limited
ADDRESS everything as it presents itself ( including open doors, stairs and trip hazards )
Be clear and concise to No2 as to where you want them ( they also have limited vision and are being led )
UPON LEAVING a compartment remember to stay low at all times
