NEWCASTLE PROPOSITIONS
In July 1646 parliament offered Charles the NEWCASTLE PROPOSITIONS, with slightly milder terms than the Uxbridge Propositions of 1645

Charles fled to his castle suspecting that he might be a royalist. Charles was mistaken, and was kept prisoner by Harrison at Carisbrooke Castle

Describe the events of the Second Civil War?
- Royalist and Scottish troops rose in July 1648 which started the second civil war
- Most uprisings were easily crushed by parliamentarian forces
- Kent, Essex, Wales and Scotland proved more difficult
- BATTLE OF PRESTON 17th August 1648 - the Scots were defeated and the 2nd civil war came to an end
When and why did parliament revoke the Vote of No Addresses?
Parliament revoked the Vote of No Addresses in August 1648 in order to reopen negotiations with Charles
How did Ireton and the Army Council react to the reopening of negations with Charles?
They were angry and issued a remonstrance on 16th Nov calling for the kings trial for execution
