Seals Flashcards
What is a barrier fluid?
Pressurised therefore will leak into process fluid due to higher pressure than process. Used in applications with dangerous process fluids
What is buffer fluid?
Unpressurised therefore process will leak into secondary seal due to product pressure being higher
What is plan 2?
Seal faces with product between them with no barrier / buffer
What is plan 11?
Stuffing box pressure is boosted from discharge controlled by orifice plate
What is plan 13?
Stuffing box pressure is vented to suction pressure held by orifice plate an used for cooling
What is plan 14?
11 and 13 combined
What is plan 21?
Plan 11 with external cooler from discharge
What is plan 23?
Stuffing box recirculated through external cooler
What is plan 52?
Unoressurized buffer from accumulator (reseviour)
What is plan 53A?
Pressurised barrier form reserviour
What is plan 53B
Pressurised barrier from accumulator containing gas bladder
What is plan 53C?
Pressurised barrier from piston accumulator
What are the potential leak points?
Gland gasket,
Behind both faces,
Along shaft
Across faces
What is a quench?
Feds to atmosphere side of seal, cleans away any coking / crystallisation under seal faces
What is a flush?
Boost stuffing box pressure cool and clean seal
