Q

Emergent Coastlines?

A
  • around the coastline there is evidence of relatively higher sea-levels in the form of raised beaches
  • these are deposits of sand and pebbles on gently sloping platforms backed by an old cliff line, which may contain caves, wave-cut platforms and even arches

Q

Submergence Coastlines?

A
  • the rise of sea level allows the sea to submerge low-lying land masses
  • this is particularly common in existing river valleys and glacial valleys

Q

What are rias?

A
  • formed when river valleys are submerged by rising sea level
  • they share the same long and cross profiles of a river

Q

Dalmatian Coastlines?

Q

Fjords?

A
  • formed when rising sea levels submerge a glacial valley (glacial trough)
  • straight and narrow with very steep sides (U-shaped)
  • have a shallower part near the mouth where the glacier left the valley (and deposited material
